I’ve spent the weekend learning. I’ve been studying Applied EMDR which is a therapy to be integrated into the work I do already. It will help my clients heal. One of the aspects of the work I already do, which was emphasised to me by this weekend, is kindness. There is a huge importance in being there for another human being - holding a safe space. It doesn’t mean rushing around ‘doing’ so much as simply ‘being’. Even the smallest kindness - a smile, a quiet presence, a reassuring nod... can make the world of difference to another person. I remember, when my sons were little, sometimes the only contact I had with another adult was when I went to Tesco’s to shop. I was struggling in those days and those ladies on the tills kept me going sometimes. They just seemed so normal, so warm. They took time to smile and chat and ‘see’ me. It meant so much. Often, even though we don’t realise it, the people we meet in our day do not feel ‘seen’. They can feel invisible, helpless, hopeless. An act of kindness, no matter how small, is never wasted. An act of kindness is love shared, is the recognition of another person’s value in the world. So... spread the love. Today, tomorrow... Kindness is the key💜
