Sunday 30th July: Today was Lifeboat Day; an important date on the calendar of any lifeboat crew family. It's a date I've nearly always looked forward to, I still do, but woah, is it a lot more full-on with a 3 year old. E was very overwhelmed by the number of people, so I was trying to keep him happy and safe, and I felt I was on high alert all day. Some of our friends were staying over nearby, so they came to spend the day with us. Their son J had just turned 3, so it was nice the boys had each other to play with. We had a look around the stalls, the boys sat in the emergency vehicles and had a go on hook-a-duck. We spent a bit of time on the beach, paddled, had lunch, and then watched the lifeboats and rescue helicopter demonstration. E decided to throw his hat in the sea, so I had to go in and rescue it, getting soaked up to my waist. It's a good job it was a warm day. 😆 Felt very proud of J on the ILB during the demonstration. E was waving to him. In the evening, we went to the lifeboat family gathering at a local hotel. I was really nervous about going as I'm a bit socially awkward anyway, and with everything that happened recently, I've tried to keep myself to myself. But everyone was so wonderful and kind and welcoming. E pulled a chair up next to a 2 year old girl and started showing her his tablet. Then later on, he was dancing and playing hide and seek with her. ❤️ It was lovely to see them both so happy. She was so accepting of his gorgeous quirks. It was the highlight of my day.
