I have my final NHS cancer care counselling session tomorrow and I am thinking about how it has helped me:- • I realised I had not emotionally processed each chapter of retirement before the next one started so my window of tolerance became smaller and smaller. • I saw that we have been reminded of our mortality but remembered we have coped with medical emergencies before and gone on to live full and interesting lives, so we will again. • Now my life is opening up I can see I am enjoying home and village based activities and not viewing them as avoidance strategies. • I am developing better boundaries. • I planning on not joining the drama dance. • I know I can trust my body and my coping strategies to get me through each day. Counselling has been life changing. I highly recommend it if you are struggling with anxiety like I was a few months ago.
