Good afternoon everyone. I want to share this, because it is worth sharing. I only wish this could be spread further, by Action for Happiness or anyone else to further promote this sort of provisions. Today, I went with my daughter for a StepUp expo in London Olimpia, about careers advice for our young people 16+ and 18+. It was a great exhibition, full of interesting stands with many, many universities and colleges, as well as some very informative speakers. However, an event like that can be extremely tiring and overwhelming for someone neurodivergent, because it is quite loud in this massive hall space, it is full of chatter, lights, colours, and any stimuli in general. Imagine my surprise, when to my daughter's great delight we came across a "sensory and quiet room", organised by EventWell. It was a big space, with some sensory tents to hide into, with lights and soft cushions, there were some other cushions/ bean bags on the floor to sit on, a sofa with a coffee table and some mags, like breath and teenage breath, some armchairs with headphones playing calm music, some noise cancelling headphones, weighted blankets, fidget toys and a colouring table. The air diffuser was blowing tisserand's lavender oil mist. It was awesome. My daughter just dived right in, headphones on, colouring in, covered in the blanket. I, as a concerned and aware parent was so, so, so grateful for this space!!! A young gentleman was looking after us, making sure we had everything but at the same time giving us plenty of space. Thank you very much EventWell and organisers of StepUp exhibition for thinking of all the young people! I was also pleased to see a stem4 stand, promoting mental health materials and Ollie foundation, for the prevention of suicide, as the very first two stands, not to be missed, when you enter the exhibition. Thank you guys for being there.
